The Start
Who would have predicted that there will be so much change in our lives over the last year with the onset of the pandemic ..? and not least for André and Flor de Sal Wine Bar.
Our friends know that Flor de Sal was founded by André, our beloved sommelier in Seville, in 2010. He has built a wealth of knowledge over the past decade and with that made many friends through his extraordinary wine tastings.
André opened his first wine shop in Calle Carlos Cañal on 28th March 2010. This was an amazing and intimate space that really set him up for success. Until the inevitable happened in March 2020, at the time of Flor de Sal’s 10-year anniversary, when we were all told to isolate. This came with its own challenges and without a doubt. André decided that he wanted to change.
As his ambition set in during the lockdown and off course, like many of us the time to reflect on our lives, André looked back over the past decade with all the positives that came with it and looked at his heart desire to open a wine bar. As a result and with a heavy heart, he closed his beloved shop.
The Project
With refocus and a new vision, André set out on a new project. Moreover, André needed to understand if there is an appetite for top-notch, unique and exquisite Spanish wines by the glass and if the Sevillian public is ready to embrace a wine bar with cheeses. In October Flor de Sal relocated to Calle Luchana. This project was to prove that André’s instinct was correct and that Seville has a desire for Spanish wines that are unique and of the highest quality. Above all, thanks to all his loyal friends that always supported him over the last decade, his instincts were confirmed.
The Dream
Armoured with the knowledge that he can sell wines by the glass and that there is support for his brand, André decided that he will be expanding to a larger and more suitable space. Consequently, Flor de Sal announced this week that Flor de Sal Wines and Tastings will become Flor de Sal Wine Bar!
With easy access to Seville’s old town and access from both Nervion station and San Bernardo tram, the new Flor de Sal will be located at Calle Espinosa y Cárcel, 10, 41005 Sevilla. A fully fletched bar with enough space for wine tastings, perfect for this time where we are observing social distancing. And with tables on the terrace, a beloved feature from the previous location.
André has fulfilled his ambition to open a wine bar for his friends, patrons, and for all the people and tourists of Seville. Hopefully, with the Coronavirus in a more manageable state, the success from Calle Carlos Cañal and Calle Luchana over the last decade will carry through to the new location at Calle Espinosa y Cárcel. But this can only be achieved with your continued support, so come and say “hello” to André and everyone at the new Flor de Sal Wine Bar!
So you ask us «how was Coronavirus for Flor de Sal?» and we have to say that this period for us was a mixed bag. In conclusion, it was sad to leave our beloved place in Calle Carlos Cañal, it was great to prove that we are able to offer a wine experience during our short time at Calle Luchana and now we are excited to open a wine bar in Nervion – Calle Espinosa y Cárcel.
But worst of all, we did not see all our friends and many of you were not able to visit us!
The Future
Our aspirations for the future are that we have a dedicated space for all our friends to enjoy wine by the glass. Most importantly with our new offering of a large venue for our wine tastings where we can practice social distancing and where you can feel safe and without concern.
All this is for you, we want to offer you a place to relax and enjoy the ever unique and highest quality Spanish wines. Without you all, we will not be here today, so all we can say is Thank You! Our customers, friends, colleagues, nearest and dearest and many of you who became our family indeed. Thank you!
